Professional Development/Career Advancement Grant

The Wyoming Arts Council’s Professional Development/Career Advancement Grant is a targeted funding initiative designed to strengthen the professional capacity of individual artists and arts-related organizations within the state of Wyoming. Administered by the Wyoming Arts Council, a state-level agency committed to enriching the cultural landscape of Wyoming, the grant aims to bolster the long-term impact and sustainability of creative professionals and institutions. The program provides direct financial support to eligible parties seeking to build skills, expand operations, and increase effectiveness within the creative sector. The grant supports a wide range of professional development and capacity-building activities. These include, but are not limited to, board and leadership development, strategic planning, professional training, conference attendance, marketing plan development, equipment purchases, and fundraising initiatives. The flexibility in allowable activities underscores the Council’s commitment to fostering growth across diverse artistic disciplines and operational needs. Importantly, there is no requirement for a cash match, though in-kind contributions must be reported in the final report. Eligibility for the program includes individual artists who reside in Wyoming for at least 10 months of the year, are 18 years or older, and are not full-time students pursuing art-related degrees. Additionally, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and government entities based in Wyoming are also eligible. Individual artists may receive one award every other fiscal year. Organizations not receiving a Community Support Grant may be eligible for up to two grants across different program areas. All applicants must ensure that their project proposals align with the general grant guidelines provided by the Arts Council. The maximum award for this grant is $1,000 per recipient. Applications are evaluated using a “Fund/No Fund” scoring model by a panel of experts and arts professionals. This binary evaluation system reflects an emphasis on clear, compelling proposals that meet the program’s stated objectives. The grant operates on a rolling basis with awards issued until all funds are expended. Applicants are encouraged to apply early due to increasing demand and limited available funding. The grant cycle for Fiscal Year 2027 is anticipated to open in mid-May 2026 and will support projects taking place between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027. All applications must be submitted at least six weeks prior to the proposed project start date. Award notifications are issued on a rolling basis, and successful applicants must submit a final report in July of the year following project completion. The program’s rolling and recurring nature supports sustained engagement from the state’s creative community throughout the year.
