Grant Description

The Learning Disabilities Foundation of America (LDFA) is a national philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing knowledge, services, and public awareness related to learning disabilities. The foundation supports charitable, scientific, literary, and educational projects that align with its mission to address unmet needs in the field of learning disabilities. LDFA aims to improve the lives of both children and adults with learning disabilities through research, service delivery, education, and strategic awareness initiatives. Applicants are invited to submit proposals that target innovative solutions in the understanding, prevention, or alleviation of learning disabilities. Fundable areas include original research into the root causes and treatments of learning disabilities, creative public awareness initiatives to enhance societal understanding, and intervention programs designed to improve outcomes for affected individuals. Projects that offer scalable or replicable models and those with national impact are prioritized. The foundation emphasizes transformative ideas that can elevate support systems for individuals with learning disabilities and expand the knowledge and resources available to families, professionals, and employers. LDFA does not fund organizational overhead, routine operating expenses, capital campaigns, or endowment initiatives, with the exception of specific funds designated for the Learning Disabilities Association of America. Individual applicants and scholarship proposals are also ineligible. All applicants must be U.S.-based organizations that qualify as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, with contributions deductible under federal law. Applications are reviewed biannually by the LDFA Board of Managers, with the next grant deadline set for September 15, 2026. The submission process consists of a written grant proposal, and in some cases, may involve an interview with the project’s lead facilitator or a site visit to assess feasibility and alignment. While specific components of the application form are not detailed in the current guidance, selected applicants will receive further instructions upon award confirmation. Successful applicants are required to comply with all grant terms, including adherence to the project plan as submitted, accurate and transparent accounting of expenditures, and timely submission of both progress and final reports using designated forms. Any unspent funds must be returned to LDFA within 60 days of project completion. Additionally, grant recipients must include a disclaimer in all related publications, acknowledging support from LDFA while clarifying that views expressed are those of the author and not the foundation. LDFA’s funding model demonstrates a clear commitment to measurable, responsible, and replicable programming. By funding proposals that advance research, raise public understanding, and enhance service delivery, the foundation helps foster a more inclusive and informed approach to learning disabilities nationwide.
