Artadia Awards for Visual Artists in New York
This funding opportunity supports innovative programs that improve educational outcomes for underperforming children and youth in New York, helping them succeed academically and transition to post-secondary education or careers.
The Artadia Awards are a nationally recognized initiative that provides unrestricted financial support, visibility, and professional development opportunities to visual artists. Established in 1999, Artadia is a non-profit organization that has continually fostered creative communities by supporting artists directly through a structured and equitable selection process. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, the program is designed to uplift artists across a spectrum of racial, gender, and geographic backgrounds. More than 50 percent of past Awardees identify as female and over 40 percent as persons of color, reflecting Artadia’s commitment to diversity and cultural representation in contemporary visual arts. The New York City Artadia Awards application is part of a broader set of city-specific programs. Applications for the New York City cycle are open from March 1 to April 1, 2026. The application process is hosted exclusively on Submittable, and all materials must be submitted through this platform. Applicants are required to provide image or time-based media samples as part of their submissions; failure to do so will result in disqualification. Applications are reviewed by a jury panel composed of three curators, including one locally based expert. Six finalists are selected in the first round and participate in a second-round virtual studio visit. A second jury, comprising one juror from the first round and a new juror, conducts these 45-minute sessions and ultimately selects three Awardees. Awardees receive $15,000 in unrestricted funds, allowing them full autonomy in how to utilize their award. In the Los Angeles cycle only, one recipient may be granted the $25,000 Marciano Artadia Award. Finalists who are not chosen as Awardees receive honorariums in recognition of their time and labor. In addition to the monetary award, Awardees gain access to the Artadia Network, which provides connections to influential stakeholders in the art world and opportunities for collaborative growth. Awardees are also featured on the Artadia Artist Registry, further extending their reach and visibility. Eligibility for the New York City award requires that applicants be contemporary visual artists working within a defined professional context such as museums, galleries, or public art spaces. Applicants must have maintained residence and an active studio practice in eligible New York City counties for at least two consecutive years prior to the application deadline. Individuals currently enrolled in or planning to attend an art-related degree program within the year are ineligible. Additionally, applicants must not have previously received an Artadia or Art Council award of $10,000 or more. However, prior finalists are eligible to reapply. Artadia accommodates both individual and collaborative applications. If an applicant is part of a long-term residency, they must apply only from the city where they permanently reside and be available for virtual studio visits. For collaborative works, all co-authors must be clearly identified and share conceptual authorship. Artadia does not support projects that fall outside the realm of contemporary visual arts, such as traditional filmmaking or choreography for performance spaces not aligned with contemporary visual contexts. Applicants are advised to frequently save their applications and ensure that media samples are properly uploaded. Artadia will only consider complete and successfully submitted applications. Applicants will be notified of their status at each stage via email through Submittable. Editing a submitted application is possible by contacting Artadia before the final 48 hours of the application window. Technical support is provided by Submittable’s Help Center, and Artadia cannot accommodate deadline extensions due to technical issues.
