Jadin Wong Fellowship in Dance
This fellowship provides financial support and professional development opportunities for an emerging Asian American dance artist in New York City to enhance their artistic career and community engagement.
The 2026 Jadin Wong Fellowship in Dance is administered by the Asian American Arts Alliance (A4) with support from the New York Community Trust. A4, a nonprofit cultural organization based in New York City, is dedicated to ensuring greater representation and equity for Asian American artists and cultural groups. Through programs that promote resource sharing, artistic development, and community building, A4 seeks to amplify Asian American voices in the arts sector. The Jadin Wong Fellowship was established to honor the legacy of Jadin Wong, a trailblazing Chinese American actress, dancer, and comedienne who advocated for greater opportunities for Asian Americans in the performing arts. The fellowship targets early-career Asian American dance artists and choreographers who reside in New York City. It is designed to support those under the age of 31 (as of May 2, 2026) who demonstrate both exceptional artistic promise and a clear potential for professional growth. The program recognizes the importance of sustained mentorship and support in nurturing emerging talent and aims to contribute to both personal artistic development and broader creative and cultural discourse within the Asian American community. One fellow will be selected through a competitive jury process that evaluates applications based on artistic merit, project development potential, community impact, and career growth prospects. Applicants must submit an online application via Jotform by the firm deadline of March 25, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET. Eligibility requires at least two years of experience in presented dance and current residency in NYC. Applicants must not be enrolled in a dance-related degree program during the fellowship period. Immediate family members of A4 staff or reviewers are also ineligible. The fellowship includes a $10,000 unrestricted stipend and spans eight months, from May to December 2026. It is divided into three distinct phases: Career Coaching (May–July), during which the fellow will engage in personal and professional development sessions; Artistic Mentorship (July–September), featuring guidance from a selected dance professional tailored to the fellow’s interests; and a Public Program component (October–December), where the fellow presents a community-facing workshop or event. A4 provides up to $1,000 in production support for this final phase. The timeline for the fellowship includes a public call on February 19, 2026, followed by an informational session on February 25. Applications close on March 25, and a panel review will occur through March and April. Award notifications will be sent by April 24, 2026, and the fellows will be publicly announced on May 7. Throughout the program, A4 staff will collaborate with the fellow to ensure the experience is tailored and impactful. Interested applicants are encouraged to consult the recorded information session and reference materials provided by A4. Questions may be directed to [email protected]. The fellowship represents a vital opportunity for early-career Asian American dancers to gain mentorship, exposure, and community engagement experience while furthering their artistic vision in New York City.
