Grant Description

The Organization Operation Grant under the Gardner Humanities Trust's 2026 Spring Grant Round offers funding support specifically for nonprofit arts organizations in Ely, Minnesota, and its surrounding areas. This grant aims to strengthen the operational capacity of local fine arts organizations, helping them sustain and grow their artistic missions and programming. The Trust is committed to enhancing Ely's cultural and aesthetic environment, which includes direct support for the arts and artisans through operational funding as a distinct complement to its Project Grant and Individual Grant tracks. The Operation Grant is available only to organizations that are registered nonprofits within Minnesota or hold federal 501(c)(3) status and are located in Ely. The funding is capped at $2,000 per organization. These funds are intended to support the basic organizational infrastructure required to maintain ongoing arts programming and services. This may include costs associated with administrative staffing, utilities, marketing, equipment maintenance, or other non-project-specific operational needs. However, the Trust does not fund general operating support unless it is through this specific grant track. The total available pool for organizational funding in the 2026 Spring Round is $10,000. Given that available funds are tied to the performance of the stock market and may vary year to year, applicants are advised that full funding is not guaranteed. If awarded partial funding, applicants have the option to either accept and proceed, revise their scope, or decline the funds. Any request exceeding the $2,000 limit will automatically be capped at the maximum allowable amount. Applicants must meet specific eligibility standards, including being in good standing with the Trust. Any organization with overdue final reports from previous grants is ineligible to apply. Organizations must not operate as for-profit entities, nor may they serve as educational institutions whose projects merely substitute for basic arts curricula in K-16 general education settings. Projects or services funded must align with the Trust’s mission to enhance fine arts in the community and must be open to the public. The application window for this funding opportunity opened on March 4, 2026 and will close on March 25, 2026. All applications must be complete and include required supporting documents to be considered eligible. Submissions must demonstrate a clear connection between the requested operational support and the organization’s ability to deliver or expand fine arts programming. The Trust board will review submissions based on organizational impact, capacity to manage the funding responsibly, and alignment with the Trust’s community and artistic goals. Award notifications will be mailed within 30 days after the deadline, and funds will be released within four weeks of receiving signed contracts. Grant recipients have 11 months to use the funds, with a final report due 60 days after project completion.
