Grant Description

The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA), a leading nonprofit arts organization in New York City, is offering a Curatorial Fellowship through its Longwood Arts Project. This program supports the professional growth of emerging curators by providing direct experience with the organization, planning, and execution of art exhibitions in the Bronx and Harlem. The fellowship is designed to introduce a Bronx-based fellow to the entire lifecycle of curating, with guidance from the Longwood Arts Project’s Gallery Director and BCA staff. The 2026 Curatorial Fellowship spans six months, running from mid-January to mid-July 2026. The selected fellow will engage with two upcoming exhibitions at distinct venues and will independently curate a smaller exhibition (featuring up to four artists) through the Longwood @ Governors Island Residency Program. Each major exhibition will include ten artists, giving the fellow broad exposure to artistic collaboration, curatorial decision-making, and exhibition design. As a paid opportunity, the fellowship requires a part-time commitment of roughly two days per week, five hours per day, and offers a stipend of $4,000. The fellow will participate in artist studio visits, project coordination, and interactions with vendors and partners, while learning about administrative workflows and conceptual development. Additionally, they will assist with installation, documentation, and the development of programming that connects artists to local audiences. Eligible applicants must be residents of the Bronx and available for travel within and beyond the borough, including to Governors Island. A bachelor’s degree in art, art history, or a related field is preferred, along with prior experience in a museum or arts organization. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and computer skills, along with an interest in contemporary visual arts and a collaborative working style. Applicants are required to submit their personal information, a cover letter explaining their interest in the fellowship, two original writing samples related to art (each no longer than 500 words), and a one-page resume. All submissions must be made via Submittable. The fellowship opens for applications on Monday, October 27, 2025, and the deadline to apply is Monday, December 1, 2025. Final selections will be made ahead of the January 2026 start date.
