Grant Description

The Equinox Foundation Grant Program, administered in partnership with Innovia Foundation, is a philanthropic initiative dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Bonner and Boundary counties of North Idaho. Rooted in the core values of wisdom, integrity, and environmental stewardship, the Equinox Foundation was established to protect the natural assets of this unique region while simultaneously promoting sustainable growth and development. The Foundation operates with a dual mission: fostering ecological responsibility and supporting long-term community health and vitality through investment in youth and local services. This grant opportunity is specifically tailored for nonprofit organizations operating within Bonner and Boundary Counties. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) public charities, units of local government as described in Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code, or federally recognized Tribes. Organizations that do not meet these criteria but are implementing charitable programs may also be considered on a case-by-case basis. All applicants must serve the eligible geographic area and adhere to non-discriminatory practices in service provision, without active delinquency in reporting from prior Equinox or Innovia-funded projects. The Equinox Foundation Grant Program supports a broad spectrum of program areas, including education and youth development, arts and culture, economic opportunity, health and wellbeing, and overall quality of life. Typical grant awards range from $5,000 to $30,000 and are distributed for a one-year period. Funding can be used to support a variety of initiatives such as seed funding for new organizations or innovative programming, program expansion, necessary capital or equipment purchases, enhanced access to services for underserved populations, and general operating support. The program encourages collaborative proposals that strengthen community partnerships and maximize impact. There are several exclusions to be aware of. The program generally does not fund individuals, endowments, debt retirement, fundraising event underwriting, or conferences and symposia focused on staff. Additionally, direct lobbying expenses are not covered, although advocacy efforts permissible under IRS regulations for public charities will be considered. This helps ensure that funds are directed toward efforts with clear charitable outcomes that align with the Foundation’s vision and mission. The 2026 application window is open from February 16 to April 10, 2026, closing at 8:59 p.m. PST. Applicants are expected to submit their materials through the Innovia Foundation's grant application process. Grant awards will be publicly announced in July 2026, and the funding period will run from August 1, 2026 through July 31, 2027. Interested applicants are advised to review the full 2026 Grant Guidelines to understand expectations and requirements. A sample list of application questions is also available to aid in preparation. Questions about the program can be directed to Innovia Foundation’s grants staff, who provide support throughout the application process. The Foundation seeks applicants with a commitment to impactful, measurable change and encourages all eligible organizations serving the region to apply.
