Grant Description

The James B. and Lois R. Archer Charitable Foundation offers competitive grant funding to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations across the United States, with a priority for projects benefiting West Texas communities. The Foundation funds organizations serving youth, young adults, or the aging population, and supports programs in five broad categories: Arts and Culture, Civic and Public Affairs, Education, Health, and Human Services. With a mission rooted in fostering systemic change and lasting community impact, the Foundation’s grant program is designed to identify and support initiatives that are well-planned, sustainable, and catalytic in nature. The Foundation considers grant applications for general operating support, specific programs or projects, and capital needs. Endowment funding is rarely granted. The review process favors applications that demonstrate secured funding from other sources, as this indicates project viability and long-term sustainability. Organizations are encouraged to apply only when a material portion of their project's total funding has already been secured. The Foundation does not fund individuals, church or seminary construction, single artistic events, annual fundraising campaigns, or establish endowments. Applications are accepted twice annually through two funding cycles. The Spring/Summer Cycle runs from March 1 to April 30, with notifications sent by June 30. The Fall/Winter Cycle runs from September 1 to October 31, with notifications by December 31. All applications must be submitted online through the Foundation’s portal, along with a cover letter and supporting documentation. Required materials include the online application form, the most recent audited and unaudited financial statements, and an IRS determination letter verifying 501(c)(3) status. Eligibility criteria are clearly defined. Only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations serving targeted populations are eligible to apply. Organizations may not submit applications for two consecutive grant cycles and must take a one-year hiatus after receiving grants in two consecutive years. These restrictions are intended to allow a broader distribution of funds and support a wider range of initiatives. The Foundation’s evaluation process is thorough and may include site visits, interviews, or requests for additional information. Notification of decisions is made in writing. While the process is competitive and not all applications will receive funding, applicants are encouraged to view declined applications not as a reflection of project value but of funding limitations. Applicants are also asked to refrain from sending commemorative items, as all available resources should support charitable purposes. For inquiries, applicants may contact the Foundation by phone at 325-942-7642 or by email at [email protected]. The Foundation is located at 5106 Knickerbocker Rd., San Angelo, Texas 76904. Further guidance and frequently asked questions are available on their website.
