Vinton Community Foundation Grant
This grant provides financial support to tax-exempt organizations that enhance educational, cultural, and charitable projects benefiting the Vinton, Iowa community.
The Vinton Community Foundation, established on November 7, 1994, is a tax-exempt charitable organization recognized under IRC 301(a). Its primary mission is to support educational, cultural, and charitable projects that enhance the quality of life in the Vinton, Iowa area. Operating as a local grantmaking body, the foundation accepts donations and distributes funds to qualifying local tax-exempt organizations. Over the years, it has awarded over $400,000 in support of nonprofit groups and community projects, directly investing in initiatives that benefit Vinton residents. All interest generated and unrestricted contributions are allocated annually to fund projects, while restricted donations are preserved within the endowment or designated toward specific uses. The Foundation is governed by a five-member Board of Directors appointed by local institutions including the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District, Vinton Area Ministerial Association, Farmers Savings Bank & Trust – Vinton, Vinton Unlimited, and the Vinton City Council. Administrative and fiduciary responsibilities are supported by professionals from Mossman Law Firm, McClure Financial, and Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, where Jessica Helms acts as the Trust Officer and primary contact for the program. Applicants must submit a detailed application outlining the project purpose, itemized cost estimates, the number and demographics of Vinton residents served, and the organization’s most recent financial statement and project budget. If funding is not disbursed through the City of Vinton or the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District, applicants must include a copy of their IRS determination letter to confirm their charitable status. Funding requests must be used within the calendar year awarded. If project completion is delayed, a formal extension request must be submitted before December 31, 2026. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of the grant. The program places emphasis on the clear articulation of community benefit, long-term project goals, measurable objectives, and the specific activities to be undertaken. A timetable is also required. Incomplete applications or failure to submit a post-award utilization report disqualifies organizations from future funding consideration. Additionally, grant recipients must list other sources of funding and amounts requested, supporting a comprehensive view of the project’s financial landscape. This grant is open to tax-exempt organizations that serve the Vinton, Iowa community. Applications must be submitted by 4:00 PM on April 15, 2026. The foundation encourages responsible grant stewardship and expects funded organizations to demonstrate accountability and transparency in their reporting.
