Grant Description

The Korea Society is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting greater awareness, understanding, and cooperation between the people of the United States and Korea. It supports cultural exchange, policy dialogue, and educational initiatives that enhance bilateral relations. Through various programs and funding opportunities, the Society seeks to bridge the cultural and experiential gap between both nations. As part of this mission, The Korea Society has introduced the Undergraduate Korea Study Abroad Travel Grant, initially launched in fall 2023, to support U.S. undergraduates pursuing academic study in Korea. The grant aims to reduce the financial barriers related to international travel, especially for students who may otherwise struggle to afford airfare and local transport costs. The funding is positioned as a “topping off” grant—designed not to cover full program costs but to ease travel burdens so students can access transformative academic and cultural experiences in Korea. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a U.S. accredited college or university and in good academic standing. They must also be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, show strong interest in Korea, demonstrate financial need, and intend to enroll in a full academic term or academic year abroad in Korea during the spring 2026 term. A compelling personal explanation of the importance of this funding is required. Successful applicants will receive up to $2,000 directly from The Korea Society to help offset travel-related expenses. After completing their study abroad experience, recipients will also have the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion hosted by the Society to reflect on and share their experience living and studying in Korea. The current application cycle is open and closes on December 15, 2025. Prospective applicants are encouraged to prepare and submit all required documentation before this date. Questions can be directed to Linda Tobash at [email protected]. This program recurs annually, and the next expected application cycle is anticipated to open in fall 2026.
