WeHo Artist Grant
This grant provides financial support to individual artists residing in West Hollywood to help them develop their creative projects and engage with the local community.
The WeHo Artist Grant is an initiative led by the City of West Hollywood to support individual artists who reside in the city and demonstrate a sustained artistic practice. Through its Arts Division and the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, the City seeks to bolster the creative fabric of West Hollywood by providing direct financial support to emerging and established artists. The program is grounded in the belief that investment in individual creators strengthens community vitality, promotes cultural equity, and enhances public engagement with the arts. This grant offers funding to artists from diverse disciplines, enabling them to develop their practice, advance their careers, and present their work to the broader public. Awardees receive $6,000 each, with a total funding pool of $30,000 available annually. Grantees are expected to apply the funds meaningfully toward artistic development, including but not limited to project production, professional advancement, and public presentation. The grant is non-restrictive in terms of how the funds are spent, as long as they contribute directly to the artist’s career and fulfill the intended project during the calendar year. Eligibility for the WeHo Artist Grant is limited to current residents of the City of West Hollywood who are registered with the West Hollywood Artist Registry. Applicants must not be current city employees or officials, or their immediate family members. Additionally, they must not have received this grant in the past, be applying for multiple City arts funding programs concurrently, or be enrolled in an academic program in the same discipline as their grant proposal. The application process is conducted online via the City’s official website. Applicants are required to submit a compelling artist statement, recent work samples that reflect artistic quality and originality, and a résumé that demonstrates a continued professional commitment. The evaluation process consists of an eligibility screening by City staff followed by a peer review panel assessment. Applications are scored across four criteria: clarity of vision, potential impact, artistic portfolio, and professional experience. Each category is rated on a 10-point scale, and funding recommendations are made through a multi-tiered review involving City committees and ultimately, the City Council. Selected grantees must fulfill several program obligations during the funded period, including submitting liability insurance documentation, attending an orientation session, and presenting their work publicly at a City Hall event in November 2027. They are also required to produce a short video reflecting on the impact of the grant and submit a final report. The grant timeline begins with a submission deadline of July 1, 2026, followed by review panels and approvals through October, grantee notifications in October, orientation in November, and earliest fund disbursal in February 2027. This grant is part of a larger ecosystem of West Hollywood arts funding programs, which also include support for community arts, filmmakers, and underrepresented communities such as Transgender and TGI+ artists. The City’s arts grants reflect a strong commitment to cultural equity, encouraging participation from artists of all backgrounds and disciplines.
