Grant Description

The Advancing Markets for Producers Grant, administered by the American Lamb Board (ALB) with funding support from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is designed to strengthen the U.S. sheep industry by enhancing sustainability, productivity, and access to new markets. Through the grant, ALB will work directly with up to 150 sheep producers across the United States to help improve their operational efficiency, reduce emissions, and promote long-term profitability within the agricultural sector. The initiative emphasizes the integration of new technologies and conservation-driven management strategies to facilitate these outcomes. This structured improvement program offers participants a comprehensive package of financial and technical support. Selected producers may receive up to $23,000 each to develop and implement a wide range of plans, including operational efficiency plans, grazing and soil management strategies, climate resilience approaches, and genetic improvement plans. The support structure includes one-on-one guidance from a Technical Service Provider (TSP), access to electronic livestock identification systems, soil sampling, and genetic consulting services through the National Sheep Improvement Program (NSIP). Participation in the program requires commitment to a series of producer deliverables. These include data collection and analysis using the MSU Climate Emissions Calculator, development of a detailed conservation plan, completion of self-monitoring and qualitative reporting, and engagement in educational webinars and workshops. Producers are also expected to certify that they are not receiving duplicative funds from other government programs such as EQIP, and must share their farm data to support the program's evaluation efforts. A final site verification visit by a TSP will ensure that all practices have been implemented as outlined. Applications are currently open and will remain available through May 1, 2026. Producers selected for the program will be notified by June 1, 2026. Once eligibility documentation has been submitted and verified, individual program timelines will begin. The program for each participant will conclude by September 30, 2028. Although the grant has a fixed closing date, it is a multi-year initiative aimed at delivering enduring change to participants’ farm operations. The program is specifically targeted toward U.S.-based sheep and lamb producers. To be eligible, applicants must establish farm records with the USDA Farm Service Agency, complete an AD-2047 form, certify their non-foreign status, and demonstrate that they are not duplicating funding for the same conservation practices. Producers must also commit to participating in all required educational and data submission activities. Contact information is available for interested applicants seeking further clarification. The American Lamb Board can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at (866) 327-5262.
