Grant Description

The Sanilac County Community Foundation (SCCF), established in 1994, is a philanthropic organization devoted to enhancing the quality of life in Sanilac County, Michigan. As a collection of endowed funds contributed by individuals, businesses, private foundations, and government entities, SCCF serves as a steward of community giving. It channels financial resources toward charitable and community development purposes, all while upholding the specific intentions of its donors. Its mission is to facilitate philanthropic giving through permanent endowments and to empower individuals and organizations striving to create meaningful, lasting change in the region. SCCF offers general grant opportunities to support a wide range of community-oriented projects and services. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations, all levels of government, educational institutions, and faith-based organizations. These entities must serve the Sanilac County community and adhere to non-discrimination principles in both staffing and service delivery. Faith-based organizations are eligible only if their proposals demonstrate a clear public benefit, serve community needs without proselytization, and ensure services are fully accessible to all individuals regardless of belief or lifestyle. The Foundation distributes grants twice per year, with submission deadlines set for May 1 and November 1. Awards are disbursed in June and December, respectively. The application process has transitioned to an online platform—GOapply powered by AkoyaGO. This portal enables applicants to begin and return to their application drafts, collaborate with team members, and access historical submissions. The online format mirrors SCCF’s previous paper-based forms to ease user transition, while enhancing recordkeeping and operational efficiency. Applicants are encouraged to review foundational documents such as grant guidelines, the sample Grant Agreement Form, and the Grant Expenditure Report before submitting proposals. The Foundation retains the right to share submitted applications with community planning entities, funders, and reviewers to evaluate project relevance and potential community impact. The SCCF prioritizes transparency, accessibility, and community involvement in its decision-making. Applicants may contact the Foundation for guidance throughout the application process. Questions regarding the grant program may be directed to Executive Director Joshua Robinson or the Foundation’s general office via phone or email. With its twice-yearly grant cycle and inclusive funding approach, the Sanilac County Community Foundation continues to serve as a vital source of support for initiatives that enrich life in Sanilac County.
