New Mexico Community Development Grants

The Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area is offering grants to support Indigenous Language Projects in Rio Arriba, Taos, and Santa Fe Counties. The Chamiza Foundation is dedicated to ensuring the cultural continuity of Pueblo tribes, focusing on supporting programs that sustain tribal life and traditions while fostering innovative change. Unlike efforts aimed at preserving Pueblo culture as an antiquity, the Chamiza Foundation views the culture of New Mexico's Pueblo tribes as a vibrant and valuable tradition worth sustaining. The Foundation is currently emphasizing the development of youth education programs in cultural traditions, Pueblo history, and language, alongside innovative technological applications in these areas. The Foundation supports 20 Pueblo Indian communities, including 19 in New Mexico and one in El Paso, Texas, offering grants for education, language preservation, youth projects, traditional arts and crafts, agriculture, and intercultural exchange. Eligible applicants include New Mexico’s Pueblo Indian organizations and tribal governments, Isleta del Sur Pueblo, community leaders, artists, and individuals within Pueblo communities, as well as non-Pueblo organizations with evidence of community support. The Route 66 Black Experiences Grant Program provides direct grant awards to African-American owned/operated businesses and attractions along Route 66, and funding to support research and programs designed to tell the stories of Black experiences related to Route 66. The program, celebrating the Route 66 Centennial, aims to help Black-owned businesses and attractions stay in operation, reopen, and expand, while also supporting research and storytelling efforts related to Black experiences on Route 66. Eligible applicants include Black-owned/operated businesses located along Route 66 with fewer than 20 employees. The 2024 grant round offers a total of $50,000 in awards, with applications due by July 14, 2024, and awards announced the week of August 5, 2024.

The Council on Culture & Arts (COCA) offers three grant programs for the period of October 1, 2024 – September 30, 2025: the Cultural Grant, Cultural Tourism Marketing Grant, and Local Community Grant. Eligible organizations located in Doña Ana, Hidalgo, Grant, Lincoln, Luna, Otero, and Sierra counties can apply for funding. The grant supports projects in education, direct services, prevention/wellness, programmatic support, and addressing social determinants of health. Grants typically range from $3,000 to $10,000 annually, with multi-year grants for 2024 ranging from $20,000 to $30,000.

The Kerr Foundation, Inc. focuses on supporting 501(c)(3) organizations that offer new or enhanced opportunities, especially for the youth, within its granting areas. The Foundation prioritizes projects in education, health, cultural development, and community service. While there's a preference for Oklahoma-based organizations, grants are also awarded to entities in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Texas, and the Washington D.C. area. Challenge Grants are typically awarded, requiring the recipient to match the grant amount within twelve months. The Foundation does not award consecutive annual grants to the same organization. These projects must be publicly accessible and demonstrate proven regional value. Eligible applicants include Tribes, Pueblos, Nations, municipalities, counties, nonprofits, public schools, colleges, soil and water conservation districts, and land grant associations. Projects must be completed within 24 months, with grants awarded up front and applications accepted on a rolling basis starting July 1, 2023 until funds are expended or June 30th 2024 (for FY24)
